Guadeloupe surprised Canada and won a very tight match 2-1 at the Orange Bowl in Miami Saturday night in first round play of the CONCACAF Gold Cup. Angloma and Fleurival scored two goals from afar and the Canadians were unable to put a stop to the players from the Caribbean island.

Brian Ching and Eddie Johnson notched goals on either side of the halftime whistle to lead the US to a 2-0 win. The victory gives the US six points in group play and sole possession of first place. The US dominated the ball and could have scored several more if not for the efforts of Trinidadian ¿keeper Jan Michael Williams.

Jose Contreras scored in the 69th minute for Guatemala to pace Los Chapines to a 1-0 win over rival El Salvador. With the win, Guatemala moves into a tie with El Salvador on three points in the group standings. The game was a physical contest from the outset as 8 yellow cards were shown in the game.
