Liberals urge Obama to take fight to Wall Street

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Liberals have a message for President Barack Obama: Your economic message is muddled, go after Wall Street harder.

Less than five months before the election, some of the presidents most ardent backers are fretting that he isnt successfully making his own case on the economy. They urge Obama to sharpen his message by standing firm against the financial sectors excesses.

Some are calling for Obama to take up the Occupy Wall Street movements rhetoric. Others want Obama to press for tougher bank regulations.

Obama is counting on liberal supporters to mount crucial get-out-the-vote efforts and fundraising drives.

But in crucial battleground states, criticizing Wall Street carries risks. Go too far, and Obama plays into the hands of Republicans who are eager to paint him as hostile to business and job-creators.
